Epimedium extract is derived from Berberidaceae plants, which are extracted from the dried leaves of Epimedium( Latin: Epimedium Brevicornum Maxim). It’s brown yellow powder with special smell and has high medicinal value. Epimedium extract mainly contains Icariin and has been used as a pure natural plant aphrodisiac for a long time. Icariin has a wide range of physiological activities and many new pharmacological effects and applications have been discovered.It can not only increase the blood flow of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular vessels, promote hematopoietic function, but also has the effect of tonifying kidney and impotency, anti-tumor and so on. It is soluble in water, ethanol and ethyl acetate, but insoluble in ether, benzene and chloroform.
