Oleuropein is mainly derived from olive leaves( Olea Europaea L.). Legend has it that Athena, the goddess of wisdom, defeated Poseidon by hurling her spear against a rock, creating a fruited olive tree. Olive tree is the symbol of peace, friendship, fertility and light, known as the "tree of life". There are five main phenolic compounds in olive leaves: oleuropein, flavonoids, flavones, flavanols and phenolic substitutes. Oleuropein, the most bioactive of these compounds, is the main component of polyphenolic secoiridoid in olive leaves. It’s brown yellow powder and widely used in health products and cosmetics.
