PYRROLIZIDINE ALKALOIDS EU Regulation

From July 1, 2022 (tomorrow), the EU has a new import policy for the content of Pyrrolizidine alkaloids. If the content does not meet the standard, it may be returned or destroyed, resulting in heavy losses. In view of the harm of Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAS) to human body, the European Union issued (EU) Regulation 2020/2040. The new regulation increased the limit requirements for Pyrrolizidine alkaloids in plant extract products, which will be enforced from July 1, 2022. If the plant extract products exported to EU exceed the limit, customs clearance may not be possible.

PYRROLIZIDINE ALKALOIDS (PA) are substances naturally produced by several species of plants, mostly weeds, which can contaminate crops and end up in foodstuffs. These substances are genotoxic carcinogens. Their presence in the food chain must be avoided.

The presence of PA can be minimized and prevented through the application of good agricultural practices and appropriate harvesting methods.

In order to ensure the soy isoflavones which we have provided is comply the EU (PA)standards, our laboratory conducted regularly inspection for PA, the tested result was below.
